Great hot spring hotel!

I had booked 2 private onsen rooms for my family through KLOOK as we have our elderly father travelling with my sis & I, we worried about leaving my father alone at the public onsen thus we chose this hotel (and the availability also fit our travelling schedule). Initial communication (and confirmation of booking) was through email which told us to stop at Beitou MRT and inform them 15 minutes in advance of our arrival for the complimentary pickup. We had also requested for an indoor onsen room and an outdoor onsen room which the receptionist understood our request for the indoor onsen upon noticing my elderly father, whom she very patiently explained to him that he shouldnt be alone in the room (hence I shared with him) as he may experience difficulties due to his age and previous heart condition, that he should only soak for 10-15 mins then take a rest and that I should soak after him so that I can watch out for him. She also advised him against drinking coffee before soaking (he had noticed the coffee machine and had asked about it while waiting for the room) as it would dehydrate him. True enough, my dad soaked once and after he got out of the onsen, he had to lie down to rest as his heart was palpitating so I took the rest of the time to soak twice and checked up on him occasionally (and made him drink a lot of water). My dad had a good rest and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Many thanks to the receptionist :)

We made a mistake booking the room and wanted to change rooms, and there was a lot of confusion since my Mandarin is rusty, but the staff was so friendly and helpful and let us move rooms, we are super grateful since we were looking forward to a large bath but made a mistake booking. They helped us move our luggage, and breakfast is vegetarian friendly and had a home cooked feel. It felt like eating at a friends house; I haven’t had Chinese vegetarian ‘meats’ in a long time! The soy milk is very good. The shuttle system is convenient, but if you don’t want to call and ask for the shuttle back it’s only a short walk back from xinbeitou station. Some people might find the beds hard but that’s common in asia since many people believe that firm beds are better for your back (so says my mom) I personally love places that have a bit more character compared to large chain hotels. There’s a lot of charm if you come in with an open mind.

It was a quick escape from the city during a rare cold weekend in Taipei. The hotel staff was very friendly and offered pick-up drop-off at the subway station (15-minute walk up/down hills). The hot spring water in room was very relaxing, and the semi open air was fantastic. The room was very large comparing to most hotels in Taipei. However, the room and the hotel itself feels old and rundown (rather than the 60's nostalgia style the hotel was probably hoping for).

Our stay at the Phoenix Paviliion hot springs hotel was a very relaxing and comfortable stay. The staff/owners were very helpful providing free pick up and drop off from Beitou station. Will definetely recommend this traditional styled hotel to friends.

Pro: Spacious room with ensuite bathroom and hot spring tub. real hot spring. free breakfast. not many but decent for vegetarian guest. love the soy milk. nice. strategically located to popular sites. got shuttle to pick and send guest to near MRT station. friendly staff that can speak english. Cons: Old hotel. maybe need upgrading. and please add more breakfast menu
